Visit Aquatic Conservation Center in Southern Tyrol

Today we visited the aquatic conservation center for marbled trout (Salmo marmoratus) and white clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes). The center focuses on cocooning (incubating eggs in the river) and nature like rearing with structures in the tanks, natural food and low densities, following a strict genetic protocol. We were absolutely impressed what was done in the last two years and got many ideas we will include in our concept for a large streamside rearing and holding facility for the Danube Sturgeons.
